In what appears to be another in a long line of publicity stunts, Kanye West ignites controversy once again with the racy painted image of two people engaging in what could be interested as a sex act. Let’s just say that there is a woman sitting facing towards a man and both of them are totally naked. Then there are the angel wings and fangs which I believe are there to draw attention away from fact that apart from almost being porn the image is pretty crude.

Kanye West tweeted the satirical statement about Wal-Mart allegedly banning his album “Yoooo they banned my album cover!!!!!” and pretended to be shocked that he caused another controversy. One thing to take into consideration in this whole situation is that the album doesn’t come out for another month. Add that to the fact that the album cover included a parental advisory label and it paints a different picture. The controversy is that big box retailers like Wal-Mart and Target won’t carry West’s new release, but oddly any album with a parental advisory label on it is not carried in those stores.

The poll found that a flap over Whitman's former housekeeper Nicky Diaz, a Latina woman who said she worked for Whitman as an illegal immigrant, does not appear to have had a big impact on the race.

The survey said 88 percent of registered voters had heard of the allegations but that 72 percent said the information made no difference in the way they plan to vote.

Latinos make up roughly a third of California's population and a fifth of the electorate, and so they could decide the race.

Mexico native Diaz surfaced last week to claim Whitman and her husband, Dr. Griff Harsh, knowingly employed her illegally for nine years and treated her poorly.

Whitman said she fire Diaz when Diaz said she was in the country illegally.

Whitman has fiercely denied the accusation, saying Diaz lied to the couple about her immigration status and was being manipulated by high-profile attorney Gloria Allred, who has been a friend and supporter of Democratic rival Brown.

"I've been a big fan of the character for a long time, he's definitely the king of all superheroes, he's the one," Snyder, who directed Watchmen and 300, told me. "It's early yet, but I can tell you that what David and Chris have done with the story so far definitely has given me a great insight into a way to make him feel modern. I've always felt he was kind of awesome. I'll finish Sucker Punch and get right at it."

EXCLUSIVE: Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct the new installment of Superman for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. Snyder was on a short list of directors that I recently revealed met with the studio as well as producers Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas. Other choices at the time included helmers Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones. I think Snyder is an inspired choice.

He is a cornerstone filmmaker for Warner Bros., a visual stylist whose efforts for the studio include 300, Watchmen, and the upcoming Sucker Punch. Deadline revealed back on February 9 that the DC Comics stalwart Superman became a priority project when Nolan agreed to godfather it. He and David S. Goyer hatched the story and Goyer wrote the script. The new Superman's producers also include Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder while co-financer Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull will serve as executive producer. I'm sure there will be hot debate on Snyder as the choice, but judging from 300, you can be sure the Man of Steel will have an inspired six-pack.

US strike kills 5 German militants in Pakistan

BERLIN – An American missile strike killed five German militants Monday in the rugged Pakistan border area where a cell of Germans and Britons at the heart of the U.S. terror alert for Europe — a plot U.S. officials link to al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden — were believed in hiding.

The attack, part of a recent spike in American drone strikes on Pakistan, came as Germany said it has "concrete evidence" that at least 70 Germans have undergone paramilitary training in Pakistan and Afghanistan, and about a third have returned to Germany.

Authorities across Europe have heightened security at airports and other travel hubs as well as at main tourist attractions following the U.S. warning of an al-Qaida-linked terror plot targeting London, Paris, Berlin and other European capitals.

Washington warned Americans over the weekend to use caution when traveling in Europe and imposed a curfew on some U.S. troops based in Germany. On Monday, Britain, Japan and Sweden issued warnings of their own, advising their citizens traveling in Europe to be on alert for possible terrorist attack by al-Qaida or other groups.

Police officers with sniffer dogs patrolled subways in Britain on Monday, while soldiers and mounted police were dispatched to two major churches in Paris — Notre Dame in the heart of the city and Sacre Coeur on the Right Bank. Paramilitary troops were also seen patrolling the area around the Eiffel Tower — twice evacuated in recent weeks for unspecified threats.

The U.S. missile strike in Pakistan killed five German militants taking shelter in a house in the town of Mir Ali in North Waziristan, a known hub for foreign militants with links to al-Qaida, Pakistani intelligence officials said.

The terror cell said to be behind the Europe plot — eight Germans and a Briton — were believed to have been in hiding in the region. A second Briton was killed in a U.S. strike last month.

A German Foreign Ministry spokesman said Monday that his office was checking the report of the latest killings. He declined to be named in keeping with policy.

However, the German police agency responsible for terrorism investigations, the Federal Criminal Police Office, said as many as 220 people have traveled from Germany to Pakistan and Afghanistan for paramilitary training, and at least 70 have received it. A Pakistani intelligence official last week said there are believed to be around 60 Germans in North Waziristan now.

There's the measured basketball approach to the Carmelo Anthony saga, and then there's the Denver Nuggets reality. And that, make no mistake, is where they have a problem.

After today's news broke that the Nuggets, New Jersey Nets, Utah Jazz and Charlotte Bobcats were discussing a deal that would send Anthony to the Nets, the 'Melo suitors who were on the outside looking in wondered exactly how seriously to take these talks. After all, the pragmatic play would be to wait, to test the market now with these sorts of discussions -- set the early price on what is a monumental move and let the situation develop while ignoring the substantial pressure being applied by Anthony's representatives to get him out of the Mile High City.

Sure, the February trade deadline clock would be ticking and the fears of losing Anthony for nothing would be forever-rising, but that timeline extends all the way to sign-and-trade possibilities next summer and simply can't dictate their every move. What's more, waiting until mid-December -- at a minimum -- would open up the possibilities and potentially sweeten their pot. That's when the elite class of free agents who signed this summer would be available for trade, as league restrictions mandate that such players can't be moved until Dec. 15. Read more here.

Will Stephen Colbert’s appearance before Congress make a difference in the contentious US debate about the employment of illegal immigrants in farm work?
Hmm, well, he certainly brought a lot of attention to the issue. As one Democratic member in the hearing room said, “I haven’t seen this many TV cameras since [Bill Clinton’s] impeachment.”

Mr. Colbert himself, in his testimony, said that given his own star power he hoped he could “bump this hearing all the way up to C-SPAN1”.

(See, that’s funny because the hearing was shown on C-SPAN3, which is reserved for lower-wattage appearances, usually. At least it’s funny to people in Washington, who watch a lot of C-SPAN.)

But what’s the outcome here? We’ll examine both sides of the issue.

Why it won't matter. Colbert’s appearance might have been too funny. Or rather, it was funny in a way that made many of the members of Congress in the room visibly uncomfortable. Remaining fully in character, the mock-conservative Colbert took shots at Democrats and their poor prospects in the upcoming elections, the predilection of congressmen to not read bills, and even partisanship itself.

“I feel that after my testimony both sides will work for the benefit of America, as you always do,” he said slyly.

The bottom line: Casey Affleck thinks of it as a performance and not as an act, and he thinks of "I'm Still Here" as a film, and not a hoax. In an interview where he revealed details behind the making of his controversial film with and about Joaquin Phoenix, he also said:

• David Letterman was not in on the performance, and what you saw on his show was really happening.

• Phoenix dropped out of character when he was not being filmed or in public.

• The drugs and the hookers were staged. The vomiting was real.
• He would have preferred to remain silent about whether the film was "real" or not, but his distributor urged him to break silence near its opening day.
• Friends and family knew. Ben Stiller was part of the film and his appearance on the Oscars in "Joaquin" makeup was well-meaning and supportive. Natalie Portman, Stiller's co-presenter on the Oscars, also knew.

These are many other revelations emerged as Affleck, director of the film starring his brother-in-law Phoenix, discussed behind the scenes realities in making the most-debated film of the year. Based on what he said, "I'm Still Here" must be considered a fiction feature, and Phoenix's work in it must be considered eligible for an Academy Award nomination.
I sent Affleck questions by email, and his replies appear below. Our exchange was a mutual enterprise of Interview magazine and RogerEbert.com, and is appearing on both websites.

Ebert: You've now said the whole enterprise was a hoax. So we'll proceed on that basis. Film critics as a group are skilled at judging the authenticity of films. My reading of a group of major reviews of "I'm Still Here" linked at Metacritic indicates that only six stated flatly the film was not genuine. Nine believed it, and the rest were not sure, had doubts, were cagey, or left themselves wriggle room. In terms of your intentions, this counts as a success, right?

Affleck: I wish people hadn't debated so much the films veracity or authenticity, hadn't asked only and dully, "Is this real?" But that response is better than apathy, I suppose. Picasso said, "Art is the lie that tells the truth."

My aim was not to fool. My aim was to provoke thought and stir emotion. The enterprise was a film, not a "hoax." The idea that Joaquin was really retiring for good and pursuing a rap career in earnest was an act. Nothing was a hoax. At the Toronto Film Festival someone was walking around to theaters in a beard and wig and glasses and telling journalists he was Joaquin Phoenix. That is a hoax. There was nothing else but the deception.

I was making a movie. In a movie we try to deceive. In theaters, as they say, the deceived are the wisest. I was trying to help the audience suspend their disbelief. That is why the film was released without comment from myself or anyone involved. The reason it was MADE without comment and with Joaquin in character when in public was because the media plays a role in the film and the media would not have played their role as well as they did had it been acknowledged that Joaquin was only performing. When I say the media I mean also the unpaid bloggers and vloggers and people all around the world commenting on line.

Just a hunch here, but it's doubtful Hank Baskett was the wide receiver Minnesota Vikings fans -- oh, and maybe Brett Favre -- were looking to land Wednesday.

The 4 p.m. ET deadline to make a deal for San Diego wideout/holdout Vincent Jackson and have the Pro Bowler in time for Week 4 came and went without a trade.

The Vikings, already 0-2 and their passing game a mess with 2009 leading receiver Sidney Rice expected to miss half the season with a hip injury, were actively pursuing Jackson. But the Chargers' reported asking price of second- and third-round 2011 draft choices apparently was too high.

Now, the 40-year-old Favre, with one touchdown, four interceptions and a 56.1 passer rating that ranks fourth-worst in the league, will have to press on with the same group of wideouts -- led by Bernard Berrian, Percy Harvin and Greg Camarillo -- that has combined for 13 catches, 129 yards and no scores. To date, Favre has had to rely on tight end Visanthe Shiancoe and tailback Adrian Peterson as his primary receivers -- a combined 18 receptions -- for an offense that has managed just 19 total points through two weeks after putting up 29 a game last season.

Of course, Minnesota (or any other team) can still deal for Jackson before the NFL's Oct. 19 trade deadline, but he won't be eligible to play regardless until Week 6. Jackson is serving a three-game suspension for violating the league's conduct code for a DUI arrest and also must sit three games for being placed on the Chargers' roster-exempt list after failing to report to training camp.

In the interim, the Vikings on Wednesday added Baskett, who entered NFL Films lore last February as a member of the Indianapolis Colts by failing to recovery a fairly significant onside-kick attempt by the New Orleans Saints during Super Bowl XLIV. Baskett, waived earlier this week by Philadelphia, has caught 76 passes for 1,080 yards and six TDs since entering the league in '06, but had just five catches last season.

Democrats on Tuesday failed to earn the support of a single Rebublican on a measure that would have created a path to citizenship for children who came into the country illegally with their families.

The DREAM Act was tacked onto a military spending bill and another that would have advanced a repeal of 1993's "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy. Republican's argued the two measures weren't related to defense and had no place in the bill. Democrats needed 60 votes to end debate on the spending bill and bring it to a vote.

Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, who introduced the DREAM Act in March 2009, was clearly upset by the 53-43 vote but said he'll continue fighting and vowed to bring it back for another vote.

"Where is the justice in this decision? At least have the courage to let us bring this matter to the floor and stand up and vote 'No.' But to hide behind this procedural ruse -- this unanimous consent request -- is totally unfair," he said from the floor of the Senate.

The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would grant citizenship to children who came here illegally when they were younger than 15, and who have lived in the United States. for at least five years. They'd also have to be high school graduates.

But opponents contend the measure is a form of amnesty and would cost too much.

In Chicago, a group of about two dozen people gathered in front of Republican headquarters Tuesday morning to gain support. The group included undocumented young people, like 23-year-old Irera Unzueta, who has been in the U.S. since she was seven.

"We have so much talent and we have so much energy and we are so ready to continue helping and contributing, but we're just not allowed that chance," she said.
